History of feminism: what to read?

Submitted June 18, 2020, 10:10 p.m. by StylusStibitz

Hi. I want to learn everything about the history of the movement, but I feel like liberal feminism is so mainstream now that I can't just google 'history of feminism' because I might get a skewed reading list. Are there any resources or readings that you can recommend? Thanks.

Feminism is a pretty wide area especially across the globe. Are you looking for a culture/country specific feminism? Or maybe feminism related to specific rights/freedoms VS movements to ban and stop various types of abuse on women?

I guess I want to understand where these terms come from - second and third wave, liberal and radical feminism. I watching Magdalene Berns criticising someone's assertion that feminism is for everyone, and it was clear that it would be good for anyone who wants to talk about these things to have a basic knowledge of the history of the movement. She also said 'read some Marx'. I've heard it said radical feminism is inspired by Marxist analysis and I want to know if that's true, and to understand that part of it.

It's true that radical feminism is greatly influenced by Marx's class analysis.

Something like this looks like a good overview to me: https://www.sagepub.com/sites/default/files/upm-binaries/6236_Chapter_1_Krolokke_2nd_Rev_Final_Pdf.pdf
