[June 2020] The witch hunt and tantrums against JKRowling continue - publisher and literary agency standing firm at the moment

Worth its own post as it's getting some specific mainstream coverage - first of all a handful of woman-hating staff at Hachette (a UK-based book printers) decided to down tools and refused to work on JKRs new book.

The publishers who either have a spine (and/or have sussed the market on this one) made a statement:

"Freedom of speech is the cornerstone of publishing. We fundamentally believe that everyone has the right to express their own thoughts and beliefs. That’s why we never comment on our authors’ personal views and we respect our employees’ right to hold a different view."

This just wound the mob up even more so now three of the cultists have targetted her literary agency (Blair) instead. Two of the signatories (Fox and Owl) have a history of this sort of "activism", and the third seems to be another wanker of the same low-calibre. The agency - like Hachette - know which side their bread is buttered and had this to say:

"we believe in freedom of speech for all; these clients have decided to leave because we did not meet their demands to be re-educated to their point of view. We respect their right to pursue what they feel is the correct course of action".

"we did not meet their demands to be re-educated to their point of view"

This is perfect. Belongs with Rowlings "I refuse to bow down to a movement that I believe is doing demonstrable harm..."

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

JKR is a money making machine. You really think her literary agent is going to be scared into compliance by 4 writers that I've never even fucking heard of?

How arrogant of them.

and one of those four wanted to remain anonymous. wow, really showed them!

I am grateful they didn't give into their demands to be 're-educated.' How dare they demand that a publishing company no less give up their views on freedom of speech. I guess they just want free speech as long as it agrees with them. The minute that speech disagrees with their views they want everyone to be 're-educated.'
