Welcome to Reddit's most active feminist community! This is a women-centered, radical feminist subreddit to discuss gender from a critical, feminist perspective. If you’re new to gender critical feminism, please familiarize yourself with our FAQ and some of these resources.

Please follow the rules and consider if your submission is appropriate for this sub or if it should be posted to a sister subreddit. See our dictionary of common terms if you’re unfamiliar with lingo.

So I had no idea posting replies in this subreddit can get you automatically banned from other subreddits. How intriguing that people really chug that kool aid...

It seems like just a few years ago, you couldn't wade into a lefty blog comments section without someone quoting "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Now totalitarianism is the new Left.

Different opinions and viewpoints are unthinkable. People hate thinking critically, and rather exist in an echo chamber where they never have to think or grow as adult humans. It’s sad and pathetic...

I haven't been banned afaik yet. I'm kind of looking forward to it, though. Is that weird?

Is this a place to rant? Can I rant here?

Goddamnit I've had this stuck inside me for a while. I've tried to let it out offline but you know men. You can't say anything bad because they'll silence you with "but the women do that too!" Ugh.

Anyway, for months now, mainly on reddit, I've seen guys who are short or whatever whine that they can't find girls because of their height. No it's not their creepiness, or their questionable hygiene, or the vague sense of entitlement to women that is holding them back. Only their height, obviously. For a while because of this, I felt guilt at my preference for taller men. I'm finally over the guilt, luckily.

But what annoys me about the whole thing is I can't say anything or celebrate being happy about finally not feeling bad about my preferences because of the men in my life. As mentioned above, they hear anything about their fellows and instantly get defensive. It pisses me off. Like, shit, just let me vent about ONE thing and I'll be done! Goddamn!

One more thing - you can't be a porn-addicted freak with PIED and questionable hygiene and still demand the women you want to get with look like supermodels. You don't have anything to offer us! Sorry, relationships take two people to make work.

Do any of you limit how much you read about feminism/women's rights because it's just too damn depressing to read about your own oppression all the time?

I've read a few Nawal el Saadawi books in the last few months and feel like a need a bit of a break because it's just too real for me. I even feel like I need a break from certain subreddits for a while.

I ordered two new books today and they were both non-feminism related and fiction. Basically what I'm wondering is if self care is required when engaging with these issues ?

Hey so I just found out some crazy news about Jazz Jennings from a friend who ran into them somewhere (I had no idea we’re from the same area) and I’m not sure if I should share it here? It’s kind of shocking (but not really) but I don’t want to get in trouble. :x

I am not a mod, but best to not post personal information about individuals here.

yehet420 · April 16, 2020, 7:37 p.m.

That’s what I thought! Noted.

Veneficcca · April 16, 2020, 2:16 p.m.

Anyone else watching the Michigan situation play out? Of course it's 4 male sheriffs who are defying the governor's stay at home orders and a bunch of asshole Proud Boys blocking ambulance access to hospitals with their "protest." I know a lot of people are pissed at having their "rights" usurped, but you can't tell me this isn't inflamed by having an attractive woman in control. The loathing for Whitmer is so intense right now. It's like she's filling an HRC-shaped hole in countless misogynists hearts.

I keep an ear towards the gender/sex debate/activism and I’ve noticed an almost total absence of mention of Barr bodies as evidence for genetic sex. It is the single greatest piece of cellular evidence for genetic sex. Why is this or am I wrong?

remquarqk · April 16, 2020, 4:50 p.m. · 1 reply

I'm guessing that most TRA's don't even know what a Barr body even is.

wrimples · April 16, 2020, 5:02 p.m. · 1 reply

Probably not, it’s just that I can’t find a damn mention of Barr bodies or sex chromatin and transgenderism or gender vs sex in any article or discussion. I’ve been searching for awhile. The Oxford dictionary says Barr bodies are “diagnostic of genetic femaleness” which is also language I don’t see being used in this debate/fight. Ability to give birth and Barr bodies are objective measures in diagnosis of genetic femaleness and when a TRA says “pregnant people” you can say “the only people who get pregnant have a Barr body in every somatic cell”. Yes it will go over their heads and they will find a path to hand wave the argument away but it won’t be lost to to the wind. It’s true and therefore can be a fulcrum to leverage your cause foreword and upward.

The absence of discussion of Barr bodies/sex chromatin stands out to me. I find it troubling and suspicious.

remquarqk · April 16, 2020, 5:10 p.m. · 1 reply

True. I'm tempted to e-mail people in academia (specifically genetics) about it, but I doubt the response would be straightforward. I think most people in the sciences are trying to just avoid talking about it altogether.

wrimples · April 16, 2020, 5:21 p.m.

That behavior sends a chill down my spine. Careerist cowards!

I'm looking to sign up for certain classes for my graduate degree. Don't want to give any details, but basically I've had problems in the past with certain professors (just imagine your typical male ego) that I've learned to steer clear of. Well, fast forward back to now, and this class that I really need is taught only by one dude. I've checked him out some via google searches and found on some old social media accounts he's "liked" crossdressing blogs, porn sites, and pages of young 20-something models. It's just so fucking annoying that my only option right now is to take this course, otherwise I have to wait a while to take it again. And not only that, now I feel like I want to avoid this professor for the long term. Am I overreacting here? The pages were just a few "likes" but I'm still like wtf, can't someone with such a prestigious background control what they put out online? God.
