Are we going to get deleted tomorrow?

CENSORSHIP Submitted June 28, 2020, 3:47 p.m. by Terfest_Shadow

So I've been seeing a few things around Reddit stating that there's going to be some kind of widespread purging of subs tomorrow. I can't actually confirm if this is true our not, but I figured it warranted a discussion. From what was mentioned, it seems to be mostly a race-related thing, but someone brought it to light over at LGBdroptheT, and honestly I think we're fair game to be deleted given Reddit's track record of trans censorship.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? And do we have any kind of backup or alternate site in place in case we go under?

Welcome to Reddit's most active feminist community! This is a women-centered, radical feminist subreddit to discuss gender from a critical, feminist perspective. If you’re new to gender critical feminism, please familiarize yourself with our FAQ and some of these resources.

Please follow the rules and consider if your submission is appropriate for this sub or if it should be posted to a sister subreddit. See our dictionary of common terms if you’re unfamiliar with lingo.

I heard about it in lgbdropthet. I hope this doesn’t come to pass though

Following, this community has been huge for me

Exactly I'm freaking out why the hell hasn't anything been planned for a migration???? I've looked up and down. Saidit.net sounds like an alt-right hellhole.

Ruqqus looks promising.

agnosticaPhoenix · June 28, 2020, 8:36 p.m.

Will check it out.

PellucidlyNebulous · June 29, 2020, 5:32 a.m.

I'll have to take a look at how filtering content for the ruqqus equivalent of a subreddit works. Looking at the main page logged out, I see a number of reactionary Male-centric subs that have gotten banned from reddit or alreary have been banned off reddit that I have no desire to be exposed to on my feed/front page.

Where did you hear that? I had several interactions with the founder of saidit and he seemed to be a decent person. (In fact, they don't even allow downvotes because they don't want all of that negativity. So instead of upvotes/downvotes, the voting options are interesting &/or funny.)

agnosticaPhoenix · June 29, 2020, 3:58 a.m. · 1 reply

I just went to check it out. I guess I was unlucky? I will look at it some more tomorrow

Oof_too_Humid · June 29, 2020, 8:15 a.m.

At least r/GenderCritical is on twitter. I followed them as soon as I read that. I would be so upset if this forum was lost. I'll be forever indebted to the women of this sub for opening my eyes to what's happening.

i hope we have some refuge, just in case. there's a radfem community on tumblr but i like it here better.

absoluteunitpussy · June 28, 2020, 5:34 p.m.

the tumblr thing? just a bunch of blogs, they often tag their posts with terf safe, or terfs do interact, or something similar. they're super easy to find.

If you're looking for a good starting point for the radfem community on Tumblr, look up radicallyaligned and check out the tumblrs she reblogs.

I wouldn't spread fear,

But hypothetically, if it were to happen. Technically it would be a win-win.

They either leave us alone, enabling grounds that we are a female majority(?) Group discussing very concerning and notorious concepts around the world. We don't just touch upon the trans issue. We discuss female genital mutilation. The othering of women on their periods. Assault, and crimes against women. Etc etc. These are very important issues to discuss and reach out about.

On the other end, shutting this down would be a huge slap for women who have been through struggles and relate to the content. Consider it a martyr to our cause. Because I feel like many people would make a huge hiss about it, and it can further the idea the the trans side is really just men silencing women.

It would prove our point, show the world that trans are incapable of discussion, and would rather shut us up and threaten us.

And if this sub gets considered. Why not the main trans sub, they have consistent memes about killing and harming people.

anxietyaccount8Porn = Trash · June 28, 2020, 5:13 p.m. · 1 reply

I think it would definitely be a bad thing if this happened, because Reddit is a mainstream platform. It's concerning that they would censor us because what we say about biological sex shouldn't even be that controversial. Also, many women have been helped by radical feminism, and they found out about it through this sub.

Falon03 · June 28, 2020, 9:17 p.m. · 1 reply

This sub is very meaningful to me, I found like-minded people here. I found exactly what I didn't find with liberal feminism. It made me question if I was even really a feminist since I didn't agree with the trendy libfems on so many things. So yeah, it would suck if they shut this place down.

Aleks5020 · June 29, 2020, 4:58 a.m. · 1 reply

I just recently stumbled across this sub. I don't actually consider myself a radical feminist (feminist yes) and there are a lot of things in rad fem ideology I actually disagree with completely (the stance on porn anf sex work for instance).

But when it comes to the trans issue, it's a breath of fresh air.

I am used to having the only people agreeing with me on this subject being (far) right-wing and/or fundamentalist religious types - at best, that makes me feel dirty, at worst, it makes me second-guess myself!

What a relief it is to know I am not actually alone among fellow liberal/progressive/left-leaning women and I'm not crazy!

Callesteelia · June 29, 2020, 6:15 a.m.

I know this question is a little off topic but is it alright if I ask you why you disagree with our stance on porn and sex work? I would genuinely like to have a discussion, I don’t want to have a fight :)

Yes, but what would we do with this information? Go to the trans-controlled mainstream media? Who would care? Depresses me to think it would be like shouting into the void.

tattle.life has a really good gender discussion thread...many share the same opinions as us.

GC-Alex · June 28, 2020, 4:27 p.m.

If they do take down the GC subs will we be able to create new ones to replace them at all? Or will they be banned too?

ApplicationMuted · June 28, 2020, 4:36 p.m.

mumsnet.com

The feminist chat section is fantastic and covers a lot of the same topics we discuss here. They are fantastic!

Oh thank god. Do you know any others? Facebook groups?

xx_power · June 29, 2020, 2:52 a.m.

I'm also looking because I'm pretty worried that well get banned. So far Ive found GC and spinster on Twitter which I follow and FDS also has a Twitter. I'm not some Twitter stan, I only installed it to export animal crossing screenshots lol and after they deleted Graham Linehan from Twitter I'm even less hopeful...

The left is not so different than the right. They believe they can censor or cancel anyone who isn't a liberal. They believe that what they are doing is justified because they see themselves as the good guys, just like the Inquisition.

The stalker sub has actually doxed our users, then the admins left the dox up when reported.

I was just banned from their subreddit for offering my perspective on the CK model as a Black woman. I didn't mock him for being a TIM, as was my baseline instinct. I simply pointed out that the model looked like a man, and did not confirm to any standard of womanhood.

girl_undoneGryffinterf · June 28, 2020, 6:47 p.m. · 1 reply

They've been trying to shut us down for seven years. Several times a year threads like these get posted. We do what the admins ask of us and don't expect them to ban us out of the blue.

agnosticaPhoenix · June 28, 2020, 6:56 p.m. · 1 reply

I wish i could start up a giant forum anyway. I wIt would give me huge peace of mind. Thanks for making me feel better though. So it was exactly the same as it is now?

girl_undoneGryffinterf · June 28, 2020, 7:01 p.m. · 1 reply

Forums are easy to start and I'm sure plenty of women would boot some up if we got shutdown. Our team would look into other options. I use Reddit because I like the threaded conversations. Forums are too hectic for me.

What do you mean with the last sentence?

agnosticaPhoenix · June 28, 2020, 7:04 p.m. · 1 reply

I agree they are hectic. Facebook isn't nearly as fun to get on either. I meant .. did the threats of banning sound the same way they do now?

girl_undoneGryffinterf · June 28, 2020, 7:13 p.m. · 1 reply

Reddit has had other ban-waves. This is a very vague rumor. The rumor says they're going for racist subs and 'others'. That could mean anything. A lot of communities are concerned. But frankly, we've been through this so many times, and we've never had reason to think the admins are out for us.

It would be good if women could create a website that we could rely on that isn't at risk of getting shut down, so off the big social media sites - a place like the feminist current. A place where we are not at risk from being silenced etc.

Threads like this get posted several times a year. I feel like it's been less than a month since the last one. This subreddit is almost seven years old and anti-feminists have been trying to shut us down the entire time. We do not expect the admins to ban us out of the blue. We've had conversations with them and we do what they asked. We're total goody-two-shoes compared to other subreddits.

The difference is that it's election year. The moral panic on social media is going crescendo. I hope nothing will happen to this sub, but the threat is real.

quelle_surpreez · June 29, 2020, 5:22 a.m.

What would warrant a shut down, and have we as a sub so far been good at avoiding the criteria?

I-will-talk-now · June 28, 2020, 8 p.m.

I could absolutely happen. Maybe we will be quarantined? This would be devastating but we will just come bask more organized.

I do think there was some kind of archive made of the subreddit.

Stay mad.

critical_of_WR · June 28, 2020, 10:48 p.m.

GC being deleted is not going to make the majority of women think a TIM is a woman, and therefore, the only ones who will stay mad are the TIMs who will continue to be perceived as men to women at large.

I don't know if it's true, but if it is, it's a great opportunity for somebody to create forums that truly adhere to free speech. As much as I hate reddit's heavy hand at censorship, they are a business, but I'm eager to take my business somewhere else.
