Female what?

DISCUSSION Submitted June 29, 2020, 5:44 a.m. by criticalnotcompliant

As many view sex and gender as completely different, they feel that the word 'woman' is only related to gender and 'female' to sex. I've seen/heard this argument umpteen times, even by those who consider themselves neutral in the debate.

There's a really bleeding obvious problem here though, female what?

A female goat?

Pig?

Deer?

Dog?

Fox?

The word for a female human is woman. We are accused of being dehumanising when we called TW men but at least 'men' implies humanity. Referring to a group of biological women as 'females' is the kind of language woman-hating incels use to dehumanise us.

I've always hated when people call me a female is an adult. They literally can't say woman or even lady.

"lady" is quickly becoming one of my favourite words

In my experience, "lady" is usually used in the same condescending, patronizing tone as "female." I'd rather they just use women. And not girls for adults.

This made me remember the hilarious satirical group Ladies Against Women who did Phyllis Schlafly style "protests" in the 80s to repeal the vote, abolish the environment, weed out uppity women, etc.

Oh wow do I miss satire...

To be honest, right now I’ll take female over “menstruator” or “uterus-haver” or whatever else bullshit we’re being called.
