When you spend a lot of time in trans communities, one observation that pops out at you is how much comparatively rarer AAP is than AGP. While we're starting to see high numbers of FtM transitioners, it's very rare to see one who displays the same pattern of fetishistic behavior present in AGP TIMs. Even among straight FtM transitioners, the motivation usually seems to be dissatisfaction with female gender roles rather than anything sexual. And when they do transition, they usually try to dress and act like normal men, rather than the sexualized, often pedophilic caricatures you see from TIMs.

So why is this? Certainly, one component of it is that males are more prone to paraphilic sexual behavior in the first place. But I don't think that answers the whole question, or explains why men have so many paraphilias. This is a radfem sub after all, we can't just chalk it up to manbrains and ladybrains and go home. Differences in behavior between sexes are overwhelmingly shaped by male and female socialization. Which brings me to my theory: the fundamental basis of autogynephilia is straight men's socialized tendency towards objectification and dehumanization of women.

To establish this, we must look a bit closer at the autogynephiic transsexual as compared to the other types. When FtM and gay male transitioners "transition", what they want is for their actual selves to be accepted as the opposite sex. They want to be the same person, just living as though they were another sex. With autogynephiles however, it's different. Their "female self" is a distinct person that they imagine in their own head, completely divorced from their actual personality, identity, and appearance. So if this female self isn't them, then who is she? She's nobody. She has no agency, no desires other than to sexually satisfy males, and no personality outside of a handful of stereotypes that signify femininity and an infantile submissiveness that men find irresistible. She is a straight man's ideal woman: every aspect of her self tailored to please and pander to him, with no inner self whatsoever.

Under patriarchy, this is how straight males are socialized to see women. Straight women, on the other hand, are socialized to see men as full human beings with full personalities. They aren't socialized to imagine a dehumanized, objectified "male self" who exists purely for their sexual gratification. Because of this, the autophilic fetish is almost exclusive to straight men. Even the "AAPs" I've seen on this subreddit don't seem to be a mirror of autogynephilic behavior. Some of them want to have dicks or be men, but they don't create fetishized alternate selves as sex objects the way AGPs do, so I don't think it qualifies as autoandrophilia. These women would probably benefit from seeing a therapist, but they aren't dangerous predators, and I think painting them as the same undersells the dehumanization and misogyny inherent in AGP.
