Welcome to r/terfisaslur.

What is a "TERF"? While "TERF" is supposed to stand for "Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist," the people called "TERF" generally are neither radical feminists nor "trans exclusionary," and in practice the term has become a slur. More info.

We're documenting hateful rhetoric directed at lesbians, radical feminists, gender critical feminists, and others on Reddit and beyond.

If you're curious about why certain trans activists are clashing with some feminists, see these resources from r/GenderCritical.

I type in /r/PCOS and it doesn't come up as a sub.

Was it banned?

ik101 · July 7, 2020, 11:02 a.m.

I went private, but it should be back up now.

ik101 · July 7, 2020, 11:03 a.m. · 1 reply

So I got banned from a pcos subreddit for saying I have pcos because I'm a woman.

unbreakablecin · July 7, 2020, 2:22 p.m. · 2 replies

What the actual f*ck??

That sub was the only place we could talk about our painful and horrible experience with PCOS and now this? I can’t believe this. Am I the only one who thinks this is targeted harassment towards women?

Why_dont_ya_ · July 7, 2020, 6:15 p.m.

Am I the only one who thinks this is targeted harassment towards women?

No.

SugarPlumFairyDust · July 7, 2020, 8:24 p.m. · 2 replies

No it was targeted. The TRA subs specifically brought up the PCOS sub and directed their members to go after it. The PCOS sub really isn’t a GC sub and doesn’t and never did exclude trans people from participating but TRAs got wind that there exists a sub that’s potentially full of T??FS because it’s a female reproductive disease so it’s overwhelmingly female so obviously that must mean a bunch of women who need to be interrogated to make sure they’re trans inclusive! 🙄

Like nobody there was anti-trans they just didn’t bend over backwards to make it be known that this is a trans ass-kissing zone so they came in swinging and felt like their fears were validated because the women were understandably defensive and annoyed.

unbreakablecin · July 7, 2020, 8:37 p.m. · 1 reply

I know, I know. I have PCOS and that was the only place I could read other women going through the same painful shit I’ve been through for the last 10+ years of my life.

Now I don’t feel comfortable there tbh. Basically we can’t talk about our ovaries (ovaries, vulva, uterus, etc) because TRAs are going to be offended and the admins are ok with that? BS

I’m so tired of this harassment and hate towards us. I can’t believe is 2020 and we still have to fight for being able to talk about menstrual periods, PCOS, pregnancy, EVERYTHING. It’s just exhausting.

SugarPlumFairyDust · July 7, 2020, 10:24 p.m. · 1 reply

Same. Like I’m not angry that there are trans people participating, I’m pissed that it’s being watched by TRAs who get offended by everything female.

unbreakablecin · July 8, 2020, 3:05 a.m. · 2 replies

Obviously we are not angry about trans people participation. Trans men can suffer from PCOS too, and they need a safe space too.

What amazes me is trans women in that subreddit being violent towards women because they don’t feel included. I mean, why are you in a sub being an asshole to women with a condition you’re never gonna have? There is one comment by a trans woman that said “I didn’t know what PCOS was until 5 min ago but read the t3rfs raided the sub”. And then continue to insult women openly. WHAT?? WHY?? Why they hate women so much? I don’t get it, honestly.

What posts were these? I'm trying to compile references for what happened.

I could go take a look through the threads later but I saw users complain about and list “T??F” subs to go after next and I saw PCOS listed among them and I believe the 2 subs I saw that happen on were r/AgainstHateSubreddits and r/GenderCynical

Apparently Reddit admins have forced PCOS mods out and replaced them with new mods who are “more inclusive”. https://www.reddit.com/r/GenderCriticalGuys/comments/hmne0h/apparently_reddit_admins_have_forced_pcos_mods/

Reddit hates women, can't let them have their own discussion space for a condition that only affects biological women.

God I read through some of those comments and I am much angrier now. Reddit really does hate women.

TyrannosaurusTERF · July 7, 2020, 11:52 a.m. · 1 reply

This pisses me off so fucking much. I may or may not have pcos, either way I have hyperandrogegism so this is a little personal. While I was not active or subscribed to that sub I know some of the plights those women suffered. As long as they were civil and respectful on that platform itself there is absolutely no good excuse for banning them for their personal beliefs. No matter if a woman is the most extreme radfem or a die hard trans activist, if she has pcos she deserves to be in that space because that space is for any people with pcos. Unless they broke the rules of the sub specifically on that sub, getting banned is 100% unfair and cruel. And they wonder why we feel the need to create accounts solely for feminist issues. It’s because of bullshit like this. Radfems will still go to you’re stupidly policed subreddits, they’ll just make another account to do it.

I just looked at the post history and my blood pressure is through the roof now.

I’m not at all saying trans people should be excluded in any way. Just that we shouldn’t make people feel bad for using the term “woman” when talking about the pain they are in because of their organs
TERF TRASH!! WE’VE BEEN INFILTRATED BY TERFS AND NEED A NEW SUBREDDIT TO ESCAPE PERSECUTION!!1!!
Good. Bye. Maybe then we can have a single place for women’s issues without being bombarded with hate for not including men in one way or another.

lucretiamott1 · July 7, 2020, 1:38 p.m. · 2 replies

I'm assuming if someone started a new PCOS sub for women with PCOS it would get shut down immediately. That's what I don't understand. It's like, okay, fine, have this space, it's yours, you want it take, go for it and make it what you want. But then let us start our own, where we feel safe and comfortable. But they won't. That's what makes no sense. They just want to completely eliminate our existence, anywhere.

PassionateIntensity · July 7, 2020, 4:05 p.m.

They hate us because they ain't us, and will never be. They can ban all the social media in the world but it won't change their bodies and they know it. Hence, the RAGE.

onlycastlesburning87 · July 7, 2020, 12:58 p.m. · 2 replies

i don't have PCOS but this is some of the craziest shit i've ever seen on reddit. i only even found out what a "TERF" was like 2 weeks ago lol and joined this sub to get more info. i know next to nothing about what it means to be a "gender critical" feminist or whatever. but i do know that PCOS aka "polycystic OVARY syndrome" only applies to "people with ovaries".. AKA WOMEN.

what are we even talking about here? like what is the argument that a PCOS sub should be inclusive of/ cater to transwomen--who, by definition, do not have ovaries? am i no longer allowed to call myself a "woman" or argue for XX female only spaces in "woke" corners of the Internet lest i get banned for not being inclusive?

to me this is another example of blatant misogyny on reddit...which has bothered me since i first joined reddit years ago. i legit fear for women's rights movements if we cannot discuss an issue that applies only to XX females without having to tip toe around trans people.

gnarlyfem · July 7, 2020, 1:21 p.m. · 1 reply

am i no longer allowed to call myself a "woman" or argue for XX female only spaces in "woke" corners of the Internet lest i get banned for not being inclusive?

Correct.

Before the PCOS sub pushed out the mods, most of the women there were not having any of this gender inclusive bullshit. Most of us live in reality and understand that we had PCOS because we are women. But according to most gender ideology, sex is a spectrum and a woman who has PCOS isn’t 100% female, despite the medical and science community saying only females can have PCOS. The majority of posters in the PCOS sub do not agree with gender inclusivity when talking about women’s health, and yet, they still forced the mods out and are banning anyone who acknowledges women and females. Gender ideology is a cult.

onlycastlesburning87 · July 7, 2020, 6:28 p.m.

Thank you for the explanation. I guess I was not aware that it is in vogue now to consider sex to be on a spectrum in addition to gender. It doesn't really make sense to me..if you are born a man and have "sex change" operations to become a woman or vise versa..aren't you then acknowledging the binary nature of sex? I suppose I need to educate myself on this issue more.

IthacanPenny · July 7, 2020, 6:52 p.m. · 1 reply

This isn’t necessarily my opinion, just trying to give you info. The issue trans rights activists have with the phrase “only women have PCOS” isn’t about trans women. It’s an inclusivity issue for trans men, who are biologically female, but identify and present as men. Trans men feel excluded and unsafe when trying to access services related to their reproductive biology. Picture a trans man going to an OBGYN appointment for himself— he is going to get some confusion/hate/discrimination. So when these issues come up, it’s usually not about trans women wanting to fake a biological need to role play being female, it’s about people who were born female but who now present to society as men needing access as well. Again, this isn’t necessarily my view, I’m just explaining where some of the pushback is coming from from the TRA perspective.

gnarlyfem · July 8, 2020, 4:19 p.m.

Except r/PCOS was always inclusive of transmen and non binary females. There’s now posts by transwomen in r/PCOS. There’s plenty of screenshots on twitter of transwomen celebrating that a female focused sub was taken over.

isabellaluna · July 7, 2020, 1:12 p.m. · 1 reply

Yep PCOS sub is fucked now. Am waiting for Endo to be the same, I got kicked out of an endometriosis support group on FB for saying endometriosis only affects women...

CABGX4 · July 7, 2020, 3:30 p.m.

I mean technically there have been very rare cases of men having endometriosis but still...99.99% of cases are women.

gnarlyfem · July 7, 2020, 1:15 p.m.

I’ve been following that sub for a long time. I thought about making my own subreddit for women, but figured it would just get banned. What really pisses me off about this, other than the blatant misogyny, is that women have a different reproductive health journey compared to transmen. Women aren’t taking a bunch of extra testosterone which would affect PCOS much differently than the natural testosterone that women make. You’d think transmen would want their own space to talk about their PCOS, because it’s going to be a much different issue to that of women with PCOS. Reddit is fucking disgusting.

i_love_spaghetti_ohs · July 7, 2020, 1:18 p.m.

I hope the new GC board has a space for women’s health issues.

QueenRowanaI will not bow, I will not break · July 7, 2020, 1:19 p.m.

justsara77 · July 7, 2020, 4:21 p.m.

I guess PCOS is now a place to discuss prostate problems, testicular issues and anything else male related. Discuss female biology and the issues we go through is NEVER offensive and it is the biology of the FEMALE!

LexChase · July 7, 2020, 5:41 p.m.

No form of SRS involves creation of ovaries in a biological male.

If you don’t have ovaries, you have no place on a sub for people who do have ovaries and health problems associated with them, let alone policing language.

The join requirements should be:

Do you have ovaries?

Do you have symptoms or a diagnosis of PCOS?

If yes to both, you can join.

That’s nothing to do with gender.

These people are insane.

Why_dont_ya_ · July 7, 2020, 6:15 p.m.

This shit is pushing me deeper and deeper into radical feminism. Silencing women for talking about women's health issues? We need to stop this absolute bullshit.

angrybroad · July 7, 2020, 6:15 p.m.

I'm feeling so fucking defeated lately. Idk if it's because Chapo was banned so now they're unleashing their bullshit on Reddit at large, but I swear I'm seeing an uptick in rabidly pro-trans comments.

It's like a fucking fever dream. On one hand we've got "choke on my girldickTERF" and subs for PCOS becoming "inclusive" so male feelings don't get hurt and on the other we've got thousands of people telling us we're just whiney bigoted bitches who can't let others be (like??? That's all WE want??? To be left alone???? But we're still the problem here???)

Aazathoth · July 7, 2020, 6:20 p.m. · 1 reply

I saw a post the other day on r/pcos about accepting trans women with pcos in the sub. I was like um... what..? How do you have PCOS if you dont have ovaries...?

angelicuhh503 · July 7, 2020, 11:01 p.m.

Exactly?! Wouldn’t it be trans men who would be allowed on the sub since they are the ones that have the body that could be effected by PCOS?!

DontWorry_BeYonce · July 7, 2020, 8:27 p.m.

Imagine posting in a testicular cancer community when you’ve never had nor will ever have testicles, and fully expecting any male who dares to correct you on the biological impossibility of it to be banned on the spot.

cbatta2025 · July 7, 2020, 9:18 p.m. · 1 reply

hippymofo11 · July 7, 2020, 10:33 p.m.

Nope the men's subs are still active. GCGuys is still active. They just hate women who don't pander to men.

CubingGirl · July 8, 2020, 12:04 a.m.

This just makes me mad. Like it wasn’t enough for them to invade women’s shelters, they had to invade spaces where they were never EVER going to fit in. It’s one thing to be like “Hey, I have a friend or a loved one going through this, how can I best support them?”. But that’s clearly not what this is, this is ridiculous. These people need to realize that not everything is tailor made for them. There are literally hundreds of places for them to go to do whatever the hell they want, yet they choose to fuck over women who go through really shitty things regularly.
