Janet Mock is the only conventionally attractive person that I feel spoke to this without sounding like a dummy. I'm not against good-looking people talking about it, but this mostly seems to be attention-seeking.
She has a nice facial structure, a nice eye shape, her nose suits her and her lips are nice imo. There’s no way to tell for sure but I think she’s probably really pretty without the makeup.

people who do these kinds of tikoks annoy me. also the fact that everyone thinks being good-looking makes your entire life suddenly amazing also annoys me. she's a black woman and i'm sure she has her own struggles. her being pretty doesn't eliminate oppression y'all

She’s just trying to find the best way to say “thank god I’m not ugly” and the video being her just admiring herself is rubbing me the wrong way, this is a serious topic ?

Black women are not the beauty standard in the US. Even the black beauty standard is light skinned so she wouldn’t even fit the AA standard of beauty.
I didn’t say they were ? She fits the standard FOR a black woman. And she benefits from featurism more so than colorism. First place is lightskins/mixed race women and then immediately after are brown/dark skinned women who hold her features.
I respectfully disagree. The black beauty standard is anything light or mixed-looking. The most common black phenotype — the one she has, with brown skin and black eyes — is not considered beautiful in the black community.
It's really a known fact, not just for black women: the only way a non-white woman can be considered beautiful in this world is to not look too non-white.
There's a reason Beyonce and Rihanna are regarded as the most beautiful black women in the world. There's a reason all the rappers sing about wanting "redbones" and "foreigns." That's the beauty standard. I have no clue what beauty standard she believes she fits.
It's odd that she thinks she does, considering TikTok is the same app that drags any non-ambiguous black woman (aka her) for filth. She seems to be living in lala land, and I almost feel bad for her.
Again I agree but that’s in terms of colorism.This is specifically regarding how she benefits from featurism, which she most definitely does. She doesn’t have the common characteristics that black women are often masculinised and dehumanised for - wide nose, big lips (not just plump like hers), strong jaw/cheekbone. She is the accepted image amongst brownskin and darkskin women.
